Full Description:
SCA promotes the history and heritage of the historic Schuylkill Navigation System as it relates to the Phoenixville community's growth and prosperity during the industrialization of our nation in the 19th century. SCA also promotes the recreational features that are in abundance along the 3-mile linear greenway bordering the Schuylkill River in Upper Providence Township. The Schuylkill Canal Park that includes the watered canal and a system of multiple trails that connect with the Schuylkill River Trail is enjoyed by many visitors for hiking, dog walking, fishing, boating and bicycling by users of all ages. Lock 60 on the Schuylkill Canal and the Locktender's House have been restored and appear as they did during the active canal era, 1860. The house is open M-F, from 9 AM to 5 PM, and on the third Sunday of every month between 1 & 4 PM; Lock 60 is opened at 3 PM on the Open House Sundays. Visit SCA's website for a full list of events scheduled throughout the year.
