Hillis is one of 10 finalists in Chilis' "Rock Star for a Day" contest in which musicians re-write the restaurant's catchy jingle for a chance to win a trip to Los Angeles to meet with record executives. Hillis, who currently resides in Phoenixville, Pa., spent Dec. 15-18 in L.A. on unrelated business. The singer-guitarist played the Genghis Cohen nightclub and co-authored three songs with Rembrandts vocalist Danny Wilde, who co-wrote the theme to "Friends."

Hillis is known as both a solo artist and lead guitarist for the Philadelphia rock group IKE, which opened for Bon Jovi last spring. On Dec. 12, he announced he was leaving IKE at the end of the year to focus on his solo career, including his forthcoming CD. After seven years in the band, his final performance with IKE will be Dec. 28 at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

Hillis and his backing band, the Forward Thinkers (including his brother Roger on bass), will play Kelly's Logan House in Wilmington on Thursday and Dogfish Head in Rehoboth on Friday. Hillis will host his annual Holiday Hootenany at Arena's in Rehoboth on Monday.
